Owls, Lady Owls sweep own WWU Spring Invite

Sophomore Celia Mansour and junior Matt Wells directed the third-ranked Lady Owls and No. 4 Owls golf teams to a championship sweep in their own William Woods University Spring Invitational on Wednesday at Tanglewood Golf Course.

Mansour secured the women's individual title with a 1-over 145 (72-73) as the Lady Owls compiled a 21-over 597 total (297-300). Loyola University-New Orleans took second place with a 649 and Freed-Hardeman (Tennessee) University was third with a 665.

Wells captured the men's individual championship with a 6-under 138 (70-68) as the Owls recorded an 11-under 565 (283-282). Missouri Valley College followed in second place with a 599 and Mount Mercy came in third with a 607.

Also placing for the William Woods women were senior Jodie Peacock, second behind Mansour with a 5-over 149 (76-73); senior Myriam Hassan, tied for third with a 151 (74-77); sophomore Katie Warren, fourth with a 152 (75-77), and sophomore Andrea Agniel, sixth with a 157 (76-81).

Sophomore Megan Cullen paced the Lady Owls' "B" team by tying Hassan for third place with a 151 (74-77).

Other top finishers for the William Woods men included junior David Houlding, second behind Wells with a 4-under 140 (68-72); sophomore Alasdair McDougall, third with a 1-under 143 (73-70); junior Billy McKenzie, tied for fourth with a 146 (72-74), and sophomore Jack Clarkson, tied for seventh with a 147 (75-72).

Westminster College's men's team finished 13th with a 708 (359-349). Senior Blake Stonecipher topped the Blue Jays by placing 60th with a 173 (84-89).

The Lady Owls compete Sunday and Monday in the Indiana State University Spring Invitational. The Owls play April 15-16 in the BEU/Mussatto Western Illinois Invitational.

The Blue Jays compete Monday in Illinois College's McNaughton Invitational.
