Callaway voters pass use tax

The Callaway County use tax question to authorize a local use tax on out-of-state purchases at the same rate as the total local sales tax, currently 1 percent, passed 1,688-1,405.

In New Bloomfield, three candidates filed for two school board seats. The winners were P. "Tod" Schattgen, 317; and Shawn Cockrun, 209. The other candidate was Jonathan Morningstar, 149.

In the North Callaway School District, three candidates filed for two seats. The winners were Daniel McMurtry, 263, and Jennifer Christine Bondurant, 247. The other candidate was Phyllis Ann Barker, 165.

Four candidates filed for two school board seats in the South Callaway School District. The two winners were: Todd A. Mealy, 290, and Heidi Powers, 237. The remaining two candidates were Stephanie Turner Laney, 170, and Greg Kimminau, 155.

In Kingdom City, four candidates filed to fill three seats on the Board of Trustees: Darrel English, 15; Linda VanEngelenhoven, 13; Donald Thompson, 13; and Allen Flood-Thompson, 2.

In New Bloomfield, Proposition 1 failed with 15 "yes" and 44 "no" votes. It would have authorized the city to discontinue applying and collecting of local sales tax on the titling of motor vehicles purchased from a source other than a licensed Missouri dealer.
