Woman's service honored

Suzanne Guerrant has been named the 2016 winner of the Jane Bierdeman-Fike Humanitarian Award. The annual honor goes to a local woman who makes major contributions of her time, actions and dedication to social justice, environmental justice, economic equality, community building, education or embracing diversity. It is presented by the City of Fulton's Human Rights Commission.

Guerrant serves as the volunteer supervisor for the Heart of Missouri Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), which helps ensure "children have a right to safe, healthy, stable homes, free from abuse and neglect." She also volunteers at her church, the Relay for Life of Callaway County and CARDV.

Guerrant was one of seven finalists for the award. The others included Gracia Backer, Cindy Baker, Sue Lippincott, Helen Logan and Rebekah Lucas.
