Miller powers Lady Bulldogs past Lady Wildcats

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Senior catcher-first baseman Kennedy Farley's two-run single highlighted a five-run outburst in the top of the fifth inning Thursday night to send the South Callaway Lady Bulldogs softball team past the New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats 7-2 in Show-Me Conference play.

South Callaway (11-7, 3-2 SMC) put up two runs in the first, but New Bloomfield (12-4, 3-2) answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game. Miller then helped the Lady Bulldogs take control in the fifth.

Senior third baseman Ashley Miller went 2-for-3 with RBI singles in the first and fifth as South Callaway made the most of only four hits. Junior shortstop Nicole Horstman also singled in the first and scored for the Lady Bulldogs.

Junior starter Konnor Arrowood went the distance to earn the win for South Callaway, allowing two runs - one earned - on just five hits. Arrowood struck out eight and walked two.

Statistics were not available for New Bloomfield at press time.

The Lady Wildcats won the junior varsity game 4-1.

The fourth-seeded Lady Bulldogs host their own South Callaway Tournament on Saturday and play No. 5 Mark Twain in the first round at 8:30 a.m. New Bloomfield is the top seed and squares off against No. 8 California in the other first-round game at 8:30.

In first-round matchups at 10:30, No. 2 seed Eugene faces No. 7 Fulton and No. 3 Wright City meets No. 6 St. Elizabeth.
