Holts Summit fire leaves 2 pets dead

A residential fire in a single-story home leaves two pets dead.

Firefighters with the Holts Summit Fire Protection District responded to a call concerning a structure fire in the 1100 block of Angie Drive around 8:45 a.m. Holts Summit District received assistance from the South Callaway Fire Protection District and the New Bloomfield Fire Department, which meant six vehicles and 15 personnel were on scene.

The owners of the home were present when the fire began and were able to leave the house without incurring injuries along with two of their four pets. Two of their pets were later rescued from the home, but died shortly after as a result of their injuries, Scott Pasley, the Public Information Officer for the Holts Summit Fire Protection District, said.

Firefighters had the fire under control after 30 minutes and inspected the residence for hot spots that could reignite. No neighboring structures were damaged by the fire.

The residence received extensive damage as a result of the fire, but the cause of it has yet to be determined, Pasley said. One of the owners of the home believes an electrical device was the cause, but an investigation is underway to consider other potential causes.
