Blue Jays soccer team stretches win streak to six

Sophomore midfielder Dustin Seibolt's goal in the 93rd minute sent the Westminster College Blue Jays soccer team to its sixth consecutive win with Sunday's 3-2 overtime victory over the Augustana (Ill.) College Vikings at Fulton High School.

Augustana fought back from a 2-0 deficit, tying the match and forcing overtime on Jonathan Colucci's unassisted goal in the 62nd minute. Just 2:34 into overtime, Westminster College junior midfielder Tripp Sheehan fed a pass to freshman midfielder Cooper Smith. Smith sent the ball on to Seibolt, who directed a shot into the left side of the net for the game-winner.

Westminster (6-1) tallied its first goal when junior forward Drew Cook took a pass from Sheehan and scored in the 19th minute. The Blue Jays added to their lead in the 24th minute on junior midfielder Eli Sherman's goal, assisted by sophomore back Austin Chandler.

The Vikings (3-4-1) made it 2-1 on Adam Witucki's unassisted goal in the 30th minute.

Westminster edged Augustana 15-13 in overall shots and 8-5 in shots on goal. The Blue Jays also possessed an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Raul Belman posted three saves for Westminster.

The Blue Jays were coming off a 1-0 triumph over Simpson (Iowa) College on Saturday at Columbia College. Westminster senior midfielder Kyle Collins was responsible for the match's lone goal, scoring in the 22nd minute off an assist from Sheehan.

The Blue Jays owned a slim 14-13 edge over Simpson (3-3-1) in overall shots, including 8-4 in shots on goal. Westminster also had a narrow 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Belman recorded four saves to earn the shutout.

On Monday, Sheehan - a Columbia native - was named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference offensive player of the week. Sheehan leads the conference in assists after setting up five of the Blue Jays' seven goals in three matches last week.
