Battle surges past Lady Hornets volleyball team

The Fulton Lady Hornets volleyball team dropped to 7-6 on the season after Monday night's 12-25, 25-9 and 25-13 loss to the (Columbia) Battle Lady Spartans at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

Senior middle hitter Hannah Cerda topped Fulton with six kills and senior setter Kenzie Shaw supplied 20 assists. Senior libero Amanda Allison finished with three aces.

"(Battle) had a big girl in the middle we couldn't stop; our defense couldn't move fast enough," Lady Hornets head coach Megan Youse said. "They also had a server who was just phenomenal.

"I was proud of the kids for sticking to it - they played tough."

Fulton (4-5) also bowed in the junior varsity match 25-17 and 25-23. Junior setter Colleen Van Norman tallied nine assists and three aces, while sophomore libero Kyleigh Davis had 11 digs.

The Lady Hornets remain at home for a North Central Missouri Conference matchup against Hannibal at 5:30 p.m. today.
