Fulton store to host pet adoption event for Pet Appreciation Week

The Tractor Supply Co. store will host its fourth annual pet adoption event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for pet owners and their furry friends to celebrate Pet Appreciation Week (P.A.W.), held Sept. 16 - 20.

The store is partnering with the Callaway Humane Society to find homes for shelter dogs and cats looking for a "furrever" home.

"There's a vast number of healthy dogs and cats just waiting to be adopted, and Pet Appreciation Week is our chance to help these pets find homes," said Gary Mather, manager of the Fulton Tractor Supply store in the press release. "By partnering with our great local nonprofits, we're able to match families with great pets and help those families start pet ownership on the right foot - or paw.

Debbie Bittle, team leader at Tractor Supply Co. and the event's organizer for the last four years, said the event usually draws an exceptional community turnout depending on the weather, since activities are held in the parking lot.

Included on the agenda for Saturday's community celebration is demonstrations on pet nutrition, drawings for $200 worth of gift cards, giveaways such as a tennis ball and pet food mats while supplies last and free pet photos, a news release from the company stated.

Bittle said kids have brought goats and other livestock animals to the event in the past to capture a special memory with their beloved animals.

Other adoption-related activities that will be featured at the event include raising awareness for the benefits of spraying and neutering pets, information on responsible pet care and tips on proper nutrition.
