Lady Wildcats softball team shut out by Fatima in SMC clash

WESTPHALIA - The New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats softball team managed just two hits in Tuesday night's 2-0 loss to the defending Class 2 state champion Fatima Lady Comets in a Show-Me Conference showdown.

Sophomore catcher Shelby Ruppel was 1-for-2 with a single in the top of the fifth inning for New Bloomfield (8-2, 2-1 SMC), while junior third baseman Kate Baxter finished 1-for-3 with a single in the sixth.

"We weren't disciplined and were chasing pitches," Lady Wildcats head coach Dara Reinkemeyer said. "When we made their pitcher go deep in the count, that worked to our advantage."

Fatima - which had only three hits - scored single runs in the first and fifth.

Junior starter Madison Love, the first of three pitchers for New Bloomfield, took the loss. Love gave up an earned run on one hit in two innings of work, struck out two and issued a pair of walks.

The Lady Wildcats also dropped the junior varsity game 7-2.

New Bloomfield hosts SMC foe Eugene at 5 p.m. Thursday.
