Lady Blue Jays soccer team stumbles in loss to Knox

The Westminster College Lady Blue Jays soccer team built an early lead but then surrendered three unanswered goals to the Knox (Ill.) College Prairie Fire in Sunday afternoon's 3-2 loss at Fulton High School.

Westminster College (2-2-1) bolted to a fast start, going up 2-0 on unassisted goals from senior midfielder Ashley Schimmel and sophomore midfielder Morgan Henry in the 5th and 16th minutes, respectively. It was Henry's team-high fourth goal of the season and Schimmel's second.

Knox College (5-1) got on the scoreboard on Lindsay Kui's goal in the 27th minute and then tied the match at 2-all when Sarah Texter scored in the 48th minute. Kayla Brown tallied the game-winner for the Prairie Fire in the 86th minute.

The Lady Blue Jays finished with a slight 12-11 edge in overall shots, while Knox owned a narrow 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Westminster had six corner kicks and the Prairie Fire totalled three.

Junior goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey recorded five saves for the Lady Blue Jays, who wrap up a three-game homestand against Central (Iowa) College at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Fulton High School.
