Unbeaten Ladybirds softball team demolishes Elsberry

ELSBERRY - Senior designated player Taylor Wiseman drove in four runs with a pair of hits as the North Callaway Ladybirds softball team stayed undefeated with its 15-2 EMO rampage over the Elsberry Lady Indians on Thursday night.

North Callaway (7-0, 4-0 Eastern Missouri Conference) started quickly, tallying four runs in the top of the first inning and then broke out for six in the third to open up a 10-0 advantage. Elsberry (0-7, 0-4) scored both of its runs in the fifth, before the Ladybirds turned the game into a rout with a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

Wiseman went 2-for-2 with a walk and also scored twice as North Callaway amassed 14 hits. Senior Madison Ausfahl - who started on the mound for the Ladybirds - also finished 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and scored twice. Senior second baseman Karlie Popp was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four runs scored.

Junior Taylor Wilson - working four innings in relief of Ausfahl - earned the victory. Wilson (4-0) gave up two earned runs on three hits, struck out six and walked none. Ausfahl scattered three hits over three scoreless innings, had two strikeouts and also walked none.

North Callaway travels to Jefferson City to face Helias at 5 p.m. Monday.
