Lady Wildcats prevail behind Love's three-hitter

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Junior starter Madison Love threw a three-hitter and struck out nine in the New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats' 7-3 win over the Harrisburg Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

Love allowed three earned runs and issued four walks in going the distance as New Bloomfield moved its season record to 8-1 with the non-conference victory. The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead after putting up a run in the bottom of the first inning, piled on four more in the second and added their last two in the third.

Harrisburg tallied two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

"The girls pulled out a win, but we need to return to some fundamentals and work on them over the next couple of days in practice," New Bloomfield head coach Dara Reinkemeyer said.

Freshman center fielder Haley Berhorst went 2-for-4 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored to ignite the Lady Wildcats' 10-hit attack. Love helped her cause at the plate by going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Junior third baseman Kate Baxter and sophomore shortstop Madi Craighead were both 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for New Bloomfield. Junior right fielder Rylee Rackers was hitless in three at-bats but had two RBI.

The Lady Wildcats rolled to a 13-0 triumph in four innings in the junior varsity game.

New Bloomfield returns to Show-Me Conference play at Fatima at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
