Lady Owls volleyball team stops skid, wins AMC opener

The William Woods University Lady Owls volleyball team halted a four-match losing streak with Tuesday night's 25-21, 25-19 and 25-13 sweep of the Hannibal-LaGrange University Lady Trojans in Tuesday night's American Midwest Conference opener at Anderson Arena.

Senior outside hitter Lauren Rodewald, junior middle blocker Stephanie Davis, senior middle blocker Cierra Merz and senior right-side hitter Rachel Frabotta posted six kills apiece to spark William Woods (4-5).

Senior outside hitter Emily Becker - who became the Lady Owls' all-time career leader in kills last weekend at the Bellevue (Neb.) University Tournament - added five in Tuesday night's win. Sophomore setter Brittney Engelbrecht also supplied 25 assists and junior defensive specialist Shelby Hinshaw contributed 13 digs.

The loss dropped Hannibal-LaGrange to 0-7 on the season.

William Woods travels to Springfield for the Evangel University Tournament, starting with a 5 p.m. match Friday against Cumberland (Tenn.) University.
