Lady Owls volleyball team drops all four matches at Nebraska tourney

BELLEVUE, Neb. - The William Woods University Lady Owls volleyball team finished 0-4 at the Bellevue University Tournament on Saturday after bowing to Baker (Kan.) University (25-17, 25-13 and 25-12) and Jamestown (N.D.) College (22-25, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-16).

Senior outside hitter Emily Becker tallied eight kills to lead William Woods University (3-5) in the loss to Baker. Junior middle blocker Stephanie Davis and freshman outside hitter Tory Wiley contributed five apiece.

Becker finished with 15 kills and senior outside hitter Lauren Rodewald added 14 for the Lady Owls in the setback to Jamestown. Sophomore setter Brittney Engelbrecht recorded 41 assists and junior defensive specialist Shelby Hinshaw supplied a team-high 16 digs.

William Woods started tournament play Friday with losses to host Bellevue (25-18, 25-18 and 30-28) and Mayville State University (20-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-23 and 22-20).

Becker and Rodewald sparked the Lady Owls with 13 and seven kills, respectively, in the Bellevue loss. Engelbrecht passed out 28 assists and Hinshaw had 11 digs.

Davis erupted for a career-high 28 kills for William Woods in the loss to Mayville State, while Becker followed with 21 and Wiley responded with a career-high 13. Engelbrecht logged a season-high 69 assists and Hinshaw broke out for a game-high 30 digs.

The Lady Owls will attempt to stop their four-match losing streak when they start American Midwest Conference play at home tonight against Hannibal-LaGrange University. Play starts at 7 at Anderson Arena.
