Unbeaten Ladybirds softball team blisters Wellsville

AUXVASSE - Sophomore left fielder Kallie Jo Lehenbauer knocked in four runs with a pair of hits as the unbeaten North Callaway Ladybirds softball team overpowered the Wellsville Lady Tigers in a six-inning, 10-0 EMO romp Thursday night.

North Callaway - which tallied runs in all but the second inning - raised its season record to 6-0 and improved to 3-0 in the Eastern Missouri Conference.

Lehenbauer finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases to help fuel the Ladybirds' 13-hit attack. Freshman Mackenzie Ausfahl - who also pitched an inning of relief - was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Senior center fielder Skylar Schmauch went 2-for-3 with two RBI, scored once and stole a base.

Junior starter Taylor Wilson scattered six hits over five innings to log the victory. Wilson (3-0) had four strikeouts and no walks.

North Callaway (5-0-1) coasted to a 15-0, three-inning triumph in the junior varsity game.

The Ladybirds were coming off a dramatic 3-2 home win over Rock Bridge on Wednesday night. Senior designated player Taylor Wiseman's single up the middle with one out in the bottom of the eighth drove in Lehenbauer with the winning run.

The Lady Bruins (1-9) scored two runs in the top of the seventh to go up 2-1. North Callaway was able to force extra innings when senior second baseman Karlie Popp singled home senior pinch-hitter Teagen Stubblefield with the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the inning.

"That was a good win against a good, young team," Ladybirds head coach Brandi Thomsen said. "We kept hitting the ball all game long and we got some key hits when we needed it.

"Teagen Stubblefield's steal (in the seventh) was one of the key moments in the game."

Popp was 3-for-4 with a double and Lehenbauer went 2-for-4 as the Ladybirds collected nine hits. Wiseman finished 1-for-4 and senior starter Madison Ausfahl was also 1-for-4 with an RBI single in the third.

Ausfahl went the distance to move her season record to 3-0 with the win. She allowed two runs - one earned - on eight hits, struck out five and issued two walks.

North Callaway prevailed in the JV contest 11-6.

The Ladybirds play an EMO game at Clopton at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
