Arrowood, Lady Bulldogs trip Lady Hornets in 4-1 win

South Callaway junior starter Konnor Arrowood tossed a five-hitter Tuesday night, guiding the Lady Bulldogs softball team to a 4-1 victory over the host Fulton Lady Hornets.

Arrowood struck out eight and walked none to earn the complete-game victory. She also helped herself at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in as South Callaway (4-3) tallied nine hits.

Junior shortstop Nicole Horstman was also 1-for-2 with two runs scored for the Lady Bulldogs, who produced a run in the top of the first inning, two more in the second and one in the fourth.

Fulton (1-4) put up its only run in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore pinch-runner Stephanie Gilbert dashed home on freshman center fielder Grace Sparks' drag bunt.

Freshman third baseman Makenzie Johnson finished 2-for-3 for the Lady Hornets and freshman right fielder Meadow Lungstrum was 1-for-3 with a double.

"We put the ball in play, we just didn't put them (hits) together," Fulton head coach Laura Dooley-Wilder said.

Sophomore starter Kendalyn Roesner went the distance in taking the loss for the Lady Hornets. Roesner gave up four earned runs on nine hits, walked five and struck out two.

"The defense did a good job of backing her up, and that was very important," Dooley-Wilder said.

South Callaway prevailed in the junior varsity game 7-4.

The Lady Hornets travel to Kirksville for a North Central Missouri Conference matchup at 5 p.m. Thursday. Fulton is 1-1 in the NCMC after a 15-2 home loss to Hannibal on Monday night.

South Callaway starts Show-Me Conference play at home against Tuscumbia at 5 p.m. Thursday.
