Lady Bulldogs softball team finishes third in Battle tourney

COLUMBIA - The South Callaway Lady Bulldogs softball team managed just one hit in taking third place in the second-annual War on the Battlefield Tournament after a 10-0 loss to Helias on Saturday.

Junior Konnor Arrowood supplied South Callaway's lone hit. Senior Ashley Miller was tagged with the loss for the Lady Bulldogs (3-3), allowing 14 hits, striking out one and issuing a walk.

South Callaway went 2-1 in pool play Friday, opening with a 10-1 victory over Springfield Hillcrest. Arrowood scattered two hits over four innings, struck out three and walked none to pick up the win.

Miller, junior Nicole Horstman and senior Cheyenne Witt had two hits apiece for the Lady Bulldogs.

South Callaway was then limited to only three hits in a 9-1 loss to Liberty North. Witt, senior Kennedy Farley and junior Jordan Killion accounted for the Lady Bulldogs' hits. Miller took the complete-game loss, surrendering 12 hits, striking out two and walking none.

In its final matchup in pool play, South Callaway bounced back to edge Mexico 4-3. Arrowood earned the victory, giving up seven hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one. Arrowood had two of the Lady Bulldogs' seven hits.

Arrowood and Horstman were both named to the all-tournament team.

South Callaway plays at Fulton at 5 p.m. today.
