Hornets take third at NCMC cross country championships

HANNIBAL - Sophomore Mason Gaines directed three Fulton medalists as the Hornets cross country team came in third at the North Central Missouri Conference championships Thursday.

Gaines took fifth place in 18 minutes, 5 seconds as Fulton compiled 98 points. Joining him as all-NCMC medalists for the Hornets were sophomore Nathan Quick (ninth, 18:37) and junior Tanner Steffen (13th, 19:04).

Other Fulton place-finishers included junior Chaz Ballard (15th, 19:26), freshman Brock Fisher (16th, 19:33), sophomore Gabe Luebbert (17th, 19:38), and junior Sabin Cassidy (24th, 20:43).

In the varsity girls' division, senior Rachel Quick (12th, 24:17) and sophomore Adrea Shadbolt (24:30) were both all-NCMC medalists as Fulton took fifth place with 100 points.

Also placing for the Lady Hornets were sophomore Olivia Rice (26th, 26:53), freshman Eryn Jones (31st, 28:42), and freshman Anne Bonderer (33rd, 29:20).

In the junior varsity combined division, Fulton junior Jared Eliuk collected the individual title in 20:05.25.

Other Fulton place-finishers included freshman Zach Schwinkie (eighth, 21:24.32), freshman Canyon Milligan (10th, 21:35.83), junior Brenden Dungan (11th, 21:51.09), freshman Clayton Prettyman (12th, 21:58.51), sophomore Richie Narancich (16th, 23:02.73), senior John Burch (18th, 24:08.07), sophomore Elisa Kuss (20th, 26:41.37), and freshman Bud Wood (22nd, 28:42.93).

The Hornets and Lady Hornets run in the Bowling Green Invitational at 4 p.m. Friday.
