Fulton educators have received a second literacy grant from Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The Parents as Teachers educators received $4,000 this past Tuesday to pay for their Bee a Reader program.

The program involves educators providing home visits to families and assisting them with information about their children's developmental progress as well as teaching them activities to share with their children. The educators take one free book to each family.

The program has two full-time educators and one part-time educator, and those individuals work with approximately 200 families in the Fulton area. Families with prenatal needs qualify as do those with children kindergarten age and younger.

"We believe that the first and most important teachers are parents," said Jen Meyerhoff of Parents as Teachers.

The first grant was given to Meg Plybon and McIntire Elementary for their reading and literacy programs.
