Ladybirds throttle Westran in District 11 semifinals

North Callaway will square off against Centralia in championship showdown Saturday

CENTRALIA - The North Callaway Ladybirds softball team will get another chance to try and take down Centralia.

Senior starter Madison Ausfahl threw a two-hit shutout and No. 2 seed North Callaway collected 10 hits in a 10-0 semifinal victory over No. 6 Westran (10-15) at the Class 2, District 11 Tournament on Thursday night.

The Ladybirds (18-7) advance to a showdown with top-seeded Centralia (20-3) for the District 11 title at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Lady Panthers reached the championship by roughing up No. 5 seed Hallsville 13-0 in Thursday night's other semifinal.

North Callaway will be seeking to avenge a 10-1 loss to Centralia in the title game of the Centralia Tournament on Sept. 26.

The Ladybirds put up four runs in the first inning Thursday night, added three more in the fourth and tacked on their final three in the sixth.

Ausfahl (9-4) struck out eight and walked none in going the distance for the win.

Sophomore left fielder Kallie Jo Lehenbauer went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored for North Callaway, while freshman designated player Cameran Knipp was 1-for-3 with a two-run single in the first. Senior catcher Erinn Bush finished 1-for-2 and freshman shortstop Mackenzie Ausfahl went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice.

"Our bats finally got going early and Madi did a great job on the mound," Ladybirds head coach Brandi Thomsen said.
