Lady Wildcats softball team falls to Fatima in District 10 semifinals

LINN - The No. 4 seed New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats managed just four hits and committed five errors in being shut out by the defending Class 2 state champion and top-seeded Fatima Lady Comets 8-0 in the Class 2, District 10 semifinals Thursday night.

Fatima tallied three runs in the first inning, one each in the second and third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Junior third baseman Kate Baxter was 1-for-3 with a double for New Bloomfield, which ended its season with a 17-8 record. Sophomore shortstop Madi Craighead and junior left fielder Baylee Garrett were both 1-for-2, while freshman center fielder Haley Berhorst finished 1-for-3.

Junior starter Madison Love threw just one inning in taking the loss for the Lady Wildcats, allowing four runs - three earned - on just two hits. Love walked two and struck out one.

"The girls had a great season," New Bloomfield head coach Dara Reinkemeyer said. "The season record is the best that it has been in at least the last 12 years.

"I'm proud of the growth of the team and how they came together throughout the season."
