BOLIVAR - New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats head golf coach Aaron Murphy was left with conflicted emotions.
New Bloomfield sophomore Alexandra Morningstar shot a 103 and just made it under the cut line as the last state qualifier in Monday's Class 1, Sectional 2 championships at Silo Ridge Country Club.
Meanwhile, Lady Wildcats senior Hannah Cornman was denied a chance to qualify for state when her 104 fell a stroke shy of making the cut.
"It's kind of bittersweet," Murphy said. "You're happy for one, but at the same time you're sad for another. It's tough."
New Bloomfield's other sectional qualifier, sophomore Maddison Markland, shot a 116.
Morningstar now moves on to the Class 1 state championships next Monday and Tuesday at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin.
"It's exciting in the fact that she's just a sophomore," Murphy said. "Hopefully this allows Alexandra to enjoy the experience and relax a little bit.
"Once she does that, she should be able to perform."
