Bowling Green edges Ladybirds softball team, clinches EMO title

AUXVASSE - The Bowling Green Lady Bobcats wrapped up the Eastern Missouri Conference championship with Thursday night's 3-2 win over the North Callaway Ladybirds softball team.

North Callaway (15-6, 7-2 EMO) went on top with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Bowling Green (18-2, 10-0) plated a run in the top of the fifth to tie the game. The Lady Bobcats scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good, while the Ladybirds answered with a run in their half of the inning.

"It was a great game; the only bad thing is we came up on the wrong end," North Callaway head coach Brandi Thomsen said. "I'm very proud of the way the team played; everybody contributed."

Senior third baseman Shannon Haley finished 2-for-3 with a run batted in as the Ladybirds collected six hits. Senior starter Madison Ausfahl was 1-for-1 with two walks and a sacrifice, while junior first baseman Taylor Wilson went 1-for-2 with a double.

Ausfahl (6-3) went the distance in taking the loss, giving up three earned runs on eight hits. She struck out eight and walked none.

North Callaway's junior varsity suffered its first loss, ending its season with a 15-1-1 mark after a 12-2 loss to Bowling Green.

The Ladybirds play in the EMO postseason tournament Saturday at Montgomery County.
