Eight Fulton players earn media all-district football recognition

Seven players from South Callaway, five from North Callaway honored

Twenty Callaway County players - highlighted by eight from the Fulton Hornets in Class 3 - were named to the media's 2015 Central Missouri all-district football teams announced this past week.

The South Callaway Bulldogs and North Callaway Thunderbirds also placed seven and five players, respectively, on the Class 2 squads.

Fulton senior running back Travis Dean, who became the Hornets' single-season rushing leader before his career ended prematurely due to a torn ACL, was selected to the Class 3 first-team offense. Dean was joined by a pair of senior teammates - wide receiver Radarion Glover and lineman Zach Benner.

Chosen on the first-team defense from Fulton were two more seniors, lineman Clayton Bristol and linebacker Kobe Kaminski.

Second-team offensive picks for the Hornets were junior quarterback Devin Masek and senior lineman Alex Garner, who also made the second-team defense and was joined by senior defensive back Andy Baysinger.

Senior lineman Dylan Bailey led South Callaway's all-district selections as a two-way, first-team choice on both offense and defense in Class 2. He was joined on the first-team defense by two teammates - senior linebacker Dillon Stone and sophomore defensive back Kaden Helsel.

Selected to the second-team offense from South Callaway were senior running back Patrick Barnard and senior lineman Hunter Call, who was also chosen to the second-team defense. Sophomore defensive back Landon Horstman and sophomore punter Austin Meyer were also second-team picks.

Named to the Class 2 first-team offense from North Callaway was senior lineman Lance Starkey, while senior lineman George Jones and senior punter Manzell Payne were first-team defensive selections. Starkey was also a second-team pick on defense and Jones a second-team choice on offense.

Also selected to the second-team offense for the Thunderbirds was sophomore wide receiver Adam Reno, while junior lineman Wyatt Branson earned second-team defensive honors.

The 5-foot-11, 174-pound Dean - who was a unanimous first-team all-North Central Missouri Conference pick - rushed for a school-record 1,920 yards and scored 25 touchdowns before suffering his knee injury in Fulton's first-round district win over Boonville on Oct. 23. Dean also finished with 12 catches for 150 yards and two scores.

Glover (5-10, 162), also a unanimous first-team all-NCMC selection, topped the Hornets with 47 receptions for 741 yards and eight touchdowns. The 6-2, 220-pound Benner - who earned unanimous first-team all-NCMC acclaim - helped Fulton average 452.2 yards of offense per game, including 272.1 rushing.

On the defensive side, Bristol (5-11, 245) was a unanimous first-team all-NCMC choice and logged 83 tackles (49 solo), including eight for loss. He also had an interception and a fumble recovery.

The 6-1, 222-pound Kaminski also received unanimous first-team all-NCMC status and led the Hornets with 141 tackles (77 solo), including six for loss. He added a sack, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Masek (5-8, 145) - a second-team all-NCMC pick - flourished in his first year as a starter, completing 136-of-237 passes (57 percent) for 2,036 yards, 22 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. He was also second behind Dean in rushing with 563 yards and 11 scores.

Garner (6-2, 221), a second-team all-NCMC selection on both sides of the ball, paced Fulton's defense with nine sacks and recorded 81 tackles (50 solo), including 11 for loss. He blocked two field-goal attempts and recovered a fumble.

The 5-10, 167-pound Baysinger - also a second-team all-NCMC choice - led the Hornets with three interceptions and three fumble recoveries. He finished with 74 tackles (44 solo).

Bailey (5-11, 220), a first-team all-Eastern Missouri Conference pick on both sides of the ball, directed a South Callaway offensive line that allowed the Bulldogs to average 325.1 total yards, including 290.4 rushing. On defense, he tallied 38.5 tackles (12 solo) and had one sack.

The 5-10, 225-pound Stone - a first-team all-EMO selection - sparked South Callaway with 72 tackles (27 solo), including 10 for loss. He registered a sack, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and scored a defensive touchdown and a safety.

Helsel (5-11, 155) - also a first-team all-EMO choice - was second on the team in tackles with 54 (31 solo), including one for a loss.

The 5-6, 165-pound Barnard, a second-team all-EMO pick, topped South Callaway in rushing with 652 yards and scored six touchdowns. Call (6-2, 300) - a first-team all-EMO selection on offense and a second-team defensive pick - posted 38 tackles (13 solo), including eight for loss.

Horstman (6-0, 170) - a second-team all-EMO pick - logged 44.5 tackles (26 solo), including 2.5 for loss. He also had an interception and recovered a fumble. Meyer (6-0, 150), also a second-team all-EMO choice, averaged 31 yards on 31 punts.

Starkey (6-2), a two-way, first-team all-EMO selection, helped North Callaway's offense average 247.7 total yards, including 150.8 rushing. He collected 48 tackles (18 solo) and had a sack and fumble recovery on defense.

Jones (5-9) - also a first-team all-EMO choice on both sides of the ball - finished with 52 tackles (17 solo) and a sack. Payne (5-10), a first-team all-EMO pick, averaged 31.3 yards on 41 punts - including a long of 62 yards - and had six kicks downed inside the 20-yard line.

Reno (6-0) was a first-team all-EMO pick despite playing in just seven games this season after breaking his collarbone. He led the Thunderbirds with 20 catches for 353 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 239 yards and four scores.

Branson (5-10) - a first-team all-EMO selection - was credited with 38 tackles (18 solo), a sack and a fumble recovery.

Fulton finished the season with a 9-3 record after bowing to Blair Oaks for the Class 3, District 6 championship. South Callaway ended with a 7-3 mark following a loss to Cole Camp in Class 2, District 7 first-round play, while North Callaway went 5-6 after a loss to Palmyra in the Class 2, District 6 semifinals.
