AJ Ballard, a freshman at Fulton High School, was presented the Scout Award for his participation in the journalism portion of the State's Constitution Project competition.

According to a press release by Beth S. Riggert, Communications Counsel with the Supreme Court of Missouri, the award was named for the young heroine of the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" and given in recognition for a student's exceptional diligence in seeking truth, justice and freedom within ourselves.

More than 70 students from 16 high schools who advanced from regional competitions held last month traveled to Jefferson City to compete first at the Missouri National Guard headquarters and Ike Skelton Training Site and then at the Supreme Court of Missouri.
