Schattgen, New Bloomfield boys advance to state cross country meet

Lady Wildcats also send three runners

BOWLING GREEN - Senior Charlie Schattgen secured the individual title and the New Bloomfield Wildcats cross country team qualified for state as a team with their second-place finish at the Class 1, District 2 championships Saturday.

Schattgen prevailed in 17 minutes, 50.81 seconds as New Bloomfield compiled 47 points. Also advancing to state as individual runners for the Wildcats were sophomore Payton Culwell (fifth, 18:49.94) and freshman Robert Morningstar (ninth, 19:06.99).

New Bloomfield's two other team qualifiers were senior Nicolas Granich (16th, 19:29.43) and sophomore Kyle Emerson (18th, 20:02.10). The Class 1 boys' state championships are at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City.

Meanwhile, sophomore Kassi O'Dowd finished fourth in 23:16.41 to pace three state qualifiers for New Bloomfield at the District 2 championships. Also moving on for the Lady Wildcats were freshman Macey Puckett (sixth, 23:32.26) and junior Kate Baxter (11th, 24:59.95).

The Class 1 girls' state championships are at 9 a.m. Saturday.
