Westminster College officially inducted Benjamin Ola. Akande as its 21st president at an inaugural celebration Saturday.
Alumni, faculty, staff and others gathered at Westminster's Champ Hall to welcome Akande to the Westminster family as the school moves forward with new direction and leadership. Among those to speak during the ceremony were dignitary Governor Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, the governor of Oyo State, Nigeria and Akande's eldest daughter Moyosola Akande both who congratulated him on his accomplishment prior to his inaugural address.
Moyosola spoke about his habit to be "constructively impatient" which created a "ready, aim, fire reaction" and attitude.
"He reaches across bridges and touches people," Moyosola added. "Thank you for the standards you've set for all of us in discipline and candor."
During his speech Akande reiterated the importance of the history of Westminster and its trailblazing path for the future.
"Be bold to challenge the status quo," he said. "Leading change is a lonely journey because change has few followers, but with it we will create an exceptional place that is an affirmation that is not satisfied with the way things are, but where our distinguished past meets our future. It's not enough to prepare for the future, we must create it."
Following the ceremony attendants were invited to a reception at the Mueller Leadership Hall.
