Holts Summit man dies in accident, police make arrest

A Jefferson City man faces several charges in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash Tuesday night in Maries County.

Keith Jones, 50, was arrested by the Missouri Highway Patrol for felony manslaughter, second-degree felony assault, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated, failure to wear a seat belt, having no insurance, careless and imprudent driving resulting in a crash and failure to register a motor vehicle.

Patrol reports show the crash occurred at 8:15 p.m. on U.S. 63 in Vichy.

Jones crossed the center line of the road and went off onto the left shoulder. There, he struck a vehicle driven by David Connor, 79, of Holts Summit. Connor had stopped on the shoulder in an attempt to avoid Jones.

Connor was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Gladys Connor, 72, of Holts Summit, was treated for serious injuries.

Jones also was treated for serious injuries while his passenger, Holly Mackley, 27, of Mineral Point, had minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.
