No. 5 Lady Owls in sixth place at NAIA golf championships

With one round to go at the NAIA national women's golf championships, the No. 5 William Woods Lady Owls' climb toward the program's first-ever national title is now a little steeper.

The Lady Owls logged a 316, falling three spots in the team standings to sixth place after three rounds at the Savannah Quarters Country Club on Thursday.

William Woods - tied for third after Wednesday's midway point - sit at 64-over par for the tournament with a three-round score of 928.

Northwood (Fla.) University and the University of the Cumberlands are knotted at 51-over par, sporting matching totals of 915 to share the lead.

Dalton State - which shared the lead with Northwood after two rounds - notched a 52-over in the third round and is just one shot out of the top spot.

Oklahoma City University (925) and Savannah College of Art and Design (927) are in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Lady Owls freshman Katie Warren shot 3-over for the round, up one spot from her second-round position and tied with Northwood's Elsa Westin for sixth place at 9-over (225).

William Woods freshman Celia Mansour - tied with Warren and four golfers after two rounds - carded a 13-over and is even with three others for 14th place and a three-round score of 229.

Junior Jodie Peacock shot 18-over in the third round and is tied for 36th at 234. Freshman Megan Cullen and junior Myriam Hassan each shot 28-over in the third round and are tied for 68th place with matching scores of 244.

Dalton State's Julia McQuilken finished the round at 1-under and has a three-round total of 215. McQuilken is six shots ahead of Houston-Victoria's Heather Shake (221), who shot 5-over in the third round to fall from atop the board.

The final round begins today.
