Stone throws shutout, drive in run as South Callaway blanks Bourbon

Junior starter Dillon Stone tossed a one-hit shutout and drove in the game's only run as the Bulldogs stymied the Warhawks 1-0 in Wednesday night's regular-season finale.

Stone struck out five, but walked six and went 0-for-2 at the plate for South Callaway (16-7).

Freshman center fielder Kaden Helsel reached on a bunt single down the third-base line with one out in the bottom of the first inning. Helsel advanced all the way to third on an error by the Bourbon first baseman, then scored on Stone's sacrifice fly to right.

Helsel finished 2-for-3, along with junior right fielder Ryan Edler, who added a double as the Bulldogs ended up with six hits. Sophomore shortstop Dylan Lepper went 1-for-2 and junior catcher Cameron Richardson was 1-for-3.

South Callaway - winners of three of its last four - is the No. 3 seed in the Class 3, District 8 Tournament at Hallsville. The Bulldogs will play the No. 6 seed Montgomery County Wildcats at 10 a.m. Saturday.

South Callaway blew past Montgomery County 13-0 in five innings on April 11 in Mokane.
