Federal firearms arrest made in Callaway

One person is in federal custody in connection with a federal firearms investigation. The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Callaway County SWAT made the arrest Wednesday morning in Callaway County.

John Ham, public information officer for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives(ATF), told the Fulton Sun authorities had expected to make one arrest and added that there is no threat to public safety. This investigation of a violation of federal firearms law originated in this part of the state, Ham added.

Ham said the investigation is ongoing. He expects criminal complaints to be filed possibly late Wednesday afternoon, but most likely Thursday. After complaints are filed, he said, more information regarding this investigation will be made available.

ATF, according to its website, is a law enforcement agency which works to protect communities from violent crimes, illegal use and trafficking of firearms, illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products, terrorism and the illegal use and storage of explosives. The agency, based in the U.S. Department of Justice, works with communities and other law enforcement agencies.
