Wiler fans 10 as New Bloomfield tops Calvary Lutheran

The Wildcats logged at least one run in each of the first four innings in downing the Lions 6-3 in non-conference play on Monday.

New Bloomfield (11-8) was out-hit 8-7 to win for a seventh time its last eight games.

Senior first baseman Boyd Kemper's two-out single to center field gave the Wildcats a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the second inning. Junior catcher Derek Shikles extended New Bloomfield's cushion to three runs with a two-out, two-run single in the third.

The Wildcats added two more in the fourth to complete their scoring. The Lions trimmed the deficit to three runs in the bottom of the frame but got no closer.

Junior starter Brady Wiler struck out 10 in five innings of work to get the win. He let up three runs on five hits, while walking two.

Kempker paced the New Bloomfield offense with a 2-for-4 showing.

"We saw it a pretty decent pitcher tonight so it took awhile to pick him up," Wildcats head coach Justin Forsythe said. "...We did okay with the bats, but we didn't do as good as I'd (have) liked.

"We did some good things at bat, but did some things we don't typically do, but adjustments will help as we head to district play."

New Bloomfield closes its regular season at North Callaway at 5 p.m. today.
