Windsor wins at No. 1 singles as Fulton bows to Helias

Freshman Haydon Windsor rolled in a second-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles to supply the Hornets with their only victory in Tuesday night's 8-1 loss to the Crusaders in the final dual of the regular season at the high school athletic complex.

Windsor won the first set with Helias' T.J. Hagenhoff 6-2 and dropped the second 3-6, before powering his way to a 10-1 win in the tiebreaker.

"Haydon's been pretty consistent for us all year long," Fulton head coach Rob Fisher said. "... Any time we can get a win over a school like Helias, it's a big deal and I couldn't be more excited for him."

•No. 2 singles: Klint Braun (H) def. sophomore Justin Adams (F), 6-1, 6-1; No. 3: Ryan Peollock (H) def. freshman Miles Johnson (F), 6-0, 6-1; No. 4: Dylan Growe (H) def. freshman Devin Ferro (F), 6-1, 6-1; No. 5: Dalton Buchjost (H) def. sophomore James Hill (F), 6-2, 6-0; No. 6: Tristan Growe (H) def. freshman Isaiah Mackley (F), 6-1, 6-3.

•No. 1 doubles: Hagenhoff/Peollock (H) def. Windsor/Adams (F), 9-8 (10-4); No. 2: Braun/T.Growe (H) def. Johnson/Ferro (F), 8-1; No. 3: D. Growe/Buchjost (H) def. Hill/Mackley (F), 8-0.

Fisher made special mention of Windsor and Adams, who were partnering in doubles for the first time this season.

"I was really impressed," Fisher said. "... They'd never played together before and played a solid opponent, and almost won."

The Hornets (5-13) play in the North Central Missouri Conference championships at 9 a.m. Friday in Marshall.
