Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs each place second at South Callaway Relays

The South Callaway boys and girls' track teams each notched second-place finishes at their own relays last Friday.

The Bulldogs racked up 106.5 points to fall just short of first place Hallsville (116.5). The South Callaway girls finished with 114 points, trailing only New Haven (145). The New Bloomfield girls (18) took 10th, while the Wildcats totaled 23 points to earn 12th.

Seniors Terry Miles and Jacob Smith and sophomore Bennett Hager all posted individual victories in their respective field events for the South Callaway boys.

Miles triumphed in the high jump, completing a winning jump of 5 feet, 8 inches and junior teammate Brandon Ward was third at 5-4.

Smith cruised to a win in the javelin with a throw of 126-9, besting senior teammate Phillip Norris' second-place toss of 96-10.

Hagar cleared the bar at 13 feet even to prevail in the pole vault.

The Bulldogs' quartet of seniors Cory Hanger, Mason Shoemaker, junior Ajay Cave and freshman Kaden Helsel won the 400 relay in a time of 45.68 seconds.

Shoemaker finished second in both the 100-meter dash (:11.34) and the 200 (:23.4). Hanger placed second in the 400 with a time of :54.3, while Miles ran a runner-up time of 2:05.41 in the 800.

New Bloomfield junior Charlie Schattgen finished third in the 3,200 with a result of 11:03.97. Wildcats junior Leo Ramirez finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 41 even, while Shoemaker placed fourth in the long jump at 18-11 1/2.

Schattgen teamed with freshmen Payton Culwell, Jacob Eickhorst and Kyle Emerson to place third in the 3,200 relay in 9:20.94.

South Callaway senior Hannah Oberdiek completed a leap of 16 feet, 9 1/2 inches to win the girls' long jump.

Senior Sarah Jennings earned top prize in the triple jump with a winning distance of 33-11 3/4.

Freshman Adrian Mann triumphed in the 800, clocking a time of 2:37.19. Jennings, Mann, Oberdiek and senior Alexis Wetherell topped the field in the 400 relay in a time of :52.21.

Mann was second in the 400 with a time of 1:03.86, while freshman teammate Ashley Potter clocked a 1:06.78 to earn fifth.

Jennings finished second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-10. New Bloomfield sophomore Baylee Garrett placed fourth with a jump of 4-8.

Senior Kailey Brooks (:50.73) finished second in the 300 hurdles, then took fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of :17.92.

Lady Wildcats freshman Kassi O'Dowd took third in the 800 (2:45.45). Lady Bulldogs freshman Elizabeth Luebbert finished third in the 3,200 in 13:30.95, while O'Dowd earned fifth in 13:42.81.

Oberdiek ran the 100 in :13.16 to take fourth, while freshman teammate Greta Cross earned fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 6:19.42.

Wetherell (68-8) and Jennings (67-4) placed fifth and sixth, respectively in the javelin. Freshman Kaci Jordan finished sixth in the triple jump in 30-11 1/2.

Brooks, Mann, Wetherell and Jordan finished fourth in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:35.1. Juniors Dariyn Finney, Haley Pate and sophomores Caitlyn Chapman and Kallie Guthrie took fourth in the 3,200 relay with a finish of 11:45.84.

Brooks, Jordan, Potter and Wetherell clocked a sixth-place time of 1:57.14 in the 800 relay.

South Callaway finishes up the regular season at the Mac Attack Invitational in Viburnum at 4 p.m. today. The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats will run at the Class 2, District 3 championships this Saturday in Linn.
