Hornets come in second in own Don Dobson Invite

Lady Hornets post third-place finish

Fulton senior Sam Christensen triumphed in the 110-meter hurdles and high jump, and the Hornets won five events overall in taking second place in their annual Don Dobson Invitational on Friday.

On the girls' side, junior Rachel Guse´ was victorious in the 800 and long jump to spur Fulton to a third-place finish.

Moberly wrapped up the boys' team title, followed by Fulton, Boonville in third place and Mexico fourth. Moberly finished off a sweep by claiming the girls' team championship, while Boonville was second, Fulton third and Mexico fourth.

"The meet moves fast when you just have four teams and there are varied results," Fulton head coach Jim Menderski said. "You could tell the kids had some nerves competing in front of the home crowd and it took them a while to settle down.

"From the middle to the back end of the meet, I felt pretty good about how we performed."

Christensen won the boys' 110 hurdles with a time of 15.4 seconds and prevailed in the high jump with an effort of 5 feet, 10 inches. He was also part of the 400 relay - along with junior Travis Dean, freshman Ammod Davis and senior Greg Nevins - that finished third in :46.6.
