Coleman directs T-Birds at California Invitational

Senior Steven Coleman was victorious in three events and added a second-place finish to spur the North Callaway boys at the California Invitational on Tuesday.

In the girls' division, freshman Reyna Schmauch paired a win in one event with a second-place outcome in another to guide North Callaway.

Team results were not available.

Coleman triumphed in the boys' 100 meters in 11.47 seconds and won the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles with respective times of :14.88 and :41.27. He came in second in the 200 in :23.63.

Sophomore Levi Gilman also finished fourth in the 300 hurdles (:44.03) and fifth in the 110 hurdles (:17.20) for the Thunderbirds. Junior Manzell Payne took fourth in the triple jump (38 feet, 1/4 inch) and fifth in the high jump (5-4), while junior William Crawford placed fourth in the 400 (:55.41) and seventh in the pole vault (8-0).

Sophomore Nicholas Douglas came in seventh in the shot put (36-8 1/2) and freshman Skyler Barker ended up in a three-way tie for eighth in the high jump (5-0). North Callaway's 800 relay of Barker, Gilman, Crawford and freshman D'Anthony Kemp finished fourth in 1:42.35, while the 400 relay of Barker, Crawford, Gilman and senior Mason Trams placed sixth in :49.45.

Schmauch prevailed in the girls' 1,600 in 6:05.00 and came in second in the 800 in 2:40.92. Her sister, junior Skylar, took second in the 3,200 (13:53.36), while a pair of freshmen - Alyssa Moore and Nicole Emmons - supplied respective third-place finishes in the high jump (4-4) and discus (94-0).

Junior Patri Eckert finished fourth in the 200 (:29.65) and sixth in the triple jump (28-4 1/2). Freshman Carley VanBoening contributed a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (6-6), while freshman Kyla Bertschinger came in fifth in both the 100 (:14.63) and long jump (14-4 1/2).

Junior Erinn Bush also placed sixth in the shot put (30-1) and freshman Kallie Jo Lehenbauer took sixth in the 100 hurdles (:18.57). The Ladybirds' 800 relay of Bertschinger, Eckert, Lehenbauer and sophomore Jaclyn McMurtry finished second in 2:01.27, while the same quartet came in third in the 400 relay (:56.95).

The 1,600 relay of Bush, Eckert, McMurtry and freshman Alyssa Rinehart placed fourth in 4:45.41.

North Callaway competes at the Eastern Missouri Conference championships at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
