Bulldogs use base paths, defense to topple Moberly 8-2

The South Callaway Bulldogs used some opportunistic base running to score a non-conference triumph.

The Bulldogs had just six hits, but it ended up being enough in an 8-2 victory over the Moberly Spartans on Monday night.

Senior first baseman Harold Woods' two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the second sparked South Callaway, which finished the frame ahead 3-0.

The Bulldogs (2-0) added two more in the third, then scored once more in the fourth. Moberly tallied a run in the bottom of the fourth, but South Callaway finished with two runs in the seventh.

The Spartans scored the final run in the bottom of the seventh.

Woods was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, junior right fielder Tyler Adams was 1-for-1 with three runs scored, while sophomore third baseman Grayson Peneston went 1-for-3.

Senior Cory Hanger pitched four innings to get the win. Hanger struck out five, but yielded six walks and allowed an earned run on two hits.

The Bulldogs open Show-Me Conference play at Linn at 5 p.m. tonight.
