Westminster offense erupts in win over Elmhurst

The Blue Jays erupted for 17 hits, nine going for extra bases, in a dominating 17-6 romp over Elmhurst on Monday afternoon.

Westminster College started the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, then extended its lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the fifth. The Blue Jays pulled away behind four-run outbursts in both the sixth and seventh, then erupted for five in the eighth.

Elmhurst tallied single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth, then added three more in the ninth.

Westminster senior Tim Chambliss went 4-for-6 with three doubles, three runs batted in and two runs scored to pace Westminster. Freshman center fielder Nick Bohlmann was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, five RBIs and three runs scored, while sophomore designated hitter Connor Hager went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Junior catcher A.C. Long, junior right fielder Tyler Branneky and junior pinch-hitter Ryan Loethen each drove in a pair of runs to help fuel the Blue Jays' season-high run total.

Westminster junior starter Will Miller surrendered an earned run on six hits in six innings to earn the win. Miller (3-0) struck out six and walked one.

Elmhurst finished with 10 hits.

The Blue Jays played a doubleheader against Union (N.Y.) College on Tuesday in Winter Haven, Florida. Results were not available at press time.
