Shikles, Wildcats tumble to Blair Oaks in 6-1 setback

Junior catcher Derek Shikles was 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in as the New Bloomfield Wildcats fell to the Blair Oaks Falcons 6-1 on Monday night.

Shikles had the lone multi-hit outing for the Wildcats (0-2), who were outhit 10-8.

Blair Oaks logged single runs in both the second and third innings, then opened up a 5-0 lead with three runs in the sixth.

Shikles' two-out, RBI double to center scored senior center fielder Tucker Lane for New Bloomfield's only run and its first of the season.

Blair Oaks topped its victory off with a run in the seventh.

Lane finished 1-for-2 with a double, while junior second baseman Clay Jensen was also 1-for-2. Senior first baseman Boyd Kempker and junior third baseman Tyler Fennewald both went 1-for-3.

Senior starter Brady Wiler allowed six earned runs on 10 hits in six innings to take the loss for the Wildcats. Wiler struck out one and issued four walks.

The Wildcats' non-conference matchup at Tipton was postponed Tuesday night. New Bloomfield - the No. 4 seed in the Show-Me Conference Tournament - plays at No. 5 Russellville in the first round at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
