Westminster run rules Kalamazoo

The Blue Jays used an eight-run first inning to notch an 11-1 seven-inning triumph over the Hornets on Sunday.

Westminster (6-1) needed just nine hits to secure its fourth straight win.

Junior catcher A.C. Long sparked the Blue Jay offense, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs, a double, a triple and a run scored. Freshman Chris Asher went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore shortstop Nick Cessna was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Junior pitcher Deion Hughes struck out eight in six innings to pick up the victory. Hughes (3-0) allowed an earned run on two hits and didn't surrender a walk.

The Blue Jays contest against Elmhurst scheduled for Monday was postponed. Westminster returns to the field today with a doubleheader against Union (N.Y.) College in Winter Haven, Florida. Games will start at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
