Westminster gets swept by Coe

Westminster managed just four hits in being swept by the Kohawks in a doubleheader on Saturday at Blue Jay Field.

The Lady Blue Jays dropped the second game 11-1 and were shut out 1-0 in the opening contest.

Coe scored twice in the top of the second inning, once in the third, then broke the game open with a four-run fourth. Westminster got its lone tally in the bottom of the fourth, but the Kohawks tacked on four more in the six to end the game.

Sophomore center fielder Bree Peterson, sophomore second baseman Kelsi Hill and freshman left fielder Amber Tepen each went 1-for-3 for the Lady Blue Jays.

Freshman pitcher Abby Bartley - a South Callaway graduate - took the loss in 3 2/3 innings of work. Bartley allowed five runs (four earned) on on three hits, walked five and struck out one.

Coe scored the decisive run in the second inning to take the opening game. Right fielder Erin Lang's two-out single to right field plated the winning run in shortstop Mallory McArtor.

Peterson collected Westminster's only hit to finish 1-for-3. Sophomore Alyson Hahn struck out five in the complete-game loss. She gave up five hits and an unearned run, while walking four.

The Lady Blue Jays host a doubleheader against Illinois College on Wednesday. Games begin at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively.
