Lady Owls top Northwestern Ohio, WVU Tech

The William Woods Lady Owls used stout pitching and live bats to garner a doubleheader sweep.

The Lady Owls outlasted West Virginia University Institute of Technology 7-4, while picking up a 2-0 win over the University of Northwestern Ohio on Monday.

William Woods (13-12) got runs in the top of the fourth and fifth, respectively, to prevail in the opener.

Junior designated player Emily Murphy was 1-for-1, while senior second baseman Sam Parsons finished 1-for-1 with an RBI to account for both Lady Owl hits.

Senior first baseman Kacey Scharnhorst finished 0-for-2, but supplied an RBI for William Woods.

Freshman starter Allison Waskow tossed a two-hit shutout for the Lady Owls. Waskow struck out seven and didn't yield a walk.

William Woods began its stay in Florida with losses of 3-0 and 2-3 to Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University on Sunday.

The Lady Owls close out their trip to Florida with a pair of contests with Southeastern University on Wednesday in Lakeland, Florida.

Games will start at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
