Williamsburg man arrested in Boone County vehicle pursuit

A Williamsburg man was arrested in Boone County Wednesday night after being involved in a vehicular chase with law enforcement there.

Joseph Dodson, 31, was a passenger in a vehicle that fled when deputies with the Boone County Sheriff's Department tried to pull the vehicle over after witnessing the driver commit several traffic violations.

According to a BCSD press release, deputies with the department's Proactive Saturation Unit were on a routine patrol in the area of Crewstwood Lane and Forum Boulevard at 9:15 p.m. when they witnessed the traffic violations and attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the suspected vehicle.

The driver failed to stop and the deputies pursued the vehicle through southwest Columbia until the vehicle collided with a curb.

According to the release, the front seat passenger - later identified as Dodson - and the driver, 30-year-old Jamie Chick of Columbia, then fled from the vehicle on foot. A rear seat passenger remained in the vehicle.

With assistance from the Columbia Police Department and the Boone County Sheriff's Department K-9 team, deputies set up a perimeter and were able to take Dodson into custody.

Dodson was arrested for resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia and was taken to the Boone County Jail, where he posted $1,000 bond.

Authorities are still searching for Chick, who faces charges of felony resisting arrest, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and driving without a valid driver's license. Chick also has an active warrant for his arrest for felony domestic assault, with a $50,000 cash-only bond.

The rear seat passenger was questioned and released by deputies.
