Top-ranked Owls golf team comes in second at NAIA Contender

IRVING, Texas - The No. 1 William Woods University men's golf team amassed a 17-over par 585 team total (304-281) in taking second place at the NAIA Contender at the TPC on Tuesday.

Fifth-ranked Oklahoma City turned back the Owls by 12 strokes, securing the team championship with a 573 (301-372).

Sophomore David Houlding finished with a 3-over par 145 (76-69) to direct William Woods with a fifth-place finish. Fellow sophomore Billy McKenzie was eighth with a 147 (76-71), while senior Julian Taylor (79-69) and sophomore Matt Wells (76-72) were both a shot back in tying for 10th with a pair of 148s.

Senior Stan Gautier completed the Owls' scoring in finishing in a tie for 31st with a 154 (76-78).

William Woods plays in the Eagle Invitational next Monday and Tuesday in Daytona Beach, Florida.
