William Woods men close fall to Freed-Hardeman in AMC quarterfinals

Four double-figure scorers weren't enough for the No. 8 seed Owls in their season-ending 80-62 loss to the top-seeded and fourth-ranked Lions in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament Friday night.

William Woods University - which finished with a 12-20 record - fell behind 17-2 with 12 minutes, 20 seconds left in the first half. The Owls trailed 43-22 at halftime, but bounced back to outscore Freed-Hardeman University 40-37 in the second half.

Sophomore Ryan Hill tallied 16 points for the Owls, who bowed to the Lions for a third time this season. Junior forward TaiRhe Turner added 15 points, while senior forward Nate Bitner logged 12 as William Woods shot 35 percent (21-of-60) from the field.

Junior forward DJ Johnson scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as the Owls were decisively outrebounded 40-25.

Isaiah Harrison totaled game highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds for Freed-Hardeman (26-3). Cameron Lewis and Vincent Dotson added 16 and 13 points, respectively, as the Lions shot 48 percent (32-of-67) as a team.

Freed-Hardeman hosted No. 4 seed Williams Baptist (Arkansas) College in a semifinal matchup Saturday night.
