William Woods' Volkart picks up AMC basketball honors

Sophomore center Kennedy Volkart, averaging a double-double in the Lady Owls' conference wins last week over Columbia College and Missouri Baptist University, was named American Midwest Conference player of the week Monday.

Volkart - from Russellville - averaged 12.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in the victories, while shooting 43 percent from the field and 86 percent at the free-throw line. She is averaging 9.8 points this season and leads William Woods University in rebounds (186) and blocked shots (29).

The Lady Owls (22-7) are the No. 3 seed for the AMC postseason tournament and host No. 6 Park University in the quarterfinals at 7 tonight at Anderson Arena. Park (16-12) advanced with a 77-39 dismantling of No. 11 seed St. Louis College of Pharmacy in first-round play Monday night.

William Woods won both of its meetings with Park during the regular season. The Lady Owls prevailed 61-56 in Parkville on Jan. 10, then triumphed 65-60 on Feb. 21 in Fulton.
