Westminster softball team blanked Washington University-St. Louis

The Lady Blue Jays were outhit 9-4 in a 7-0 loss to the Lady Bears on Saturday.

Freshman left fielder Amber Tepen finished 2-for-3 for Westminster (0-3).

Sophomore starter Alyson Hahn took the loss in 5 2/3 innings of work. Hahn gave up six runs (two earned) on seven hits, while striking out four.

Washington University tallied lone runs in the top of the first and third innings, then padded its lead with four in the sixth and one more in the seventh.

The Lady Blue Jays bowed to the Hendrix (Arkansas) College Lady Warriors 11-1 in five innings in the backhalf of Friday's doubleheader.

The Lady Warriors erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, then added single runs in the second, third and fourth frames.

Sophomore center fielder Allison Biggs was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Tepen went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored as Westminster finished with five hits.

Freshman Abby Bartley (South Callaway) took the loss in an inning of work. Bartley yielded eight earned runs on seven hits, while walking one.

The Lady Blue Jays bowed to Hendrix 4-2 in Friday's season opener.

Westminster led 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning before the Lady Warriors plated a pair to go on top. Hendrix wrapped up its scoring with a run in the fifth.

Tepen finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Biggs was 1-for-4 with a run driven in.

Hahn fanned three in the complete-game loss. She surrendered four earned runs on six hits, while yielding three walks.

Each team collected six hits.

The Lady Blue Jays begin play Stephens College in a home-opening doubleheader this Friday. Games will begin at 5 and 7 p.m., respectively.
