Lions Club to host district convention Saturday in Callaway

The Lions Club District 26-M convention will be held Saturday, March 7 at the Callaway Christian Church in Fulton.

Local lion Emery Smola, longtime member of the Fulton club, is currently serving as the Lions District Governor for the 10 counties in the central Missouri district. He traveled to Toronto, Canada last summer for training for his role, according to a Lions Club press release.

International Director A.D. Don Shove - from Everett, Washington - is on the convention agenda. Shove is also a training and development administrator for Boeing Corporation. He is one of 34 international directors. Lions Club chapters serve 210 countries.

Lions Club International is celebrating 100 years in 2017. At Saturday's convention, Smola will discuss the centennial service challenge - a challenge for all Lions members worldwide. The service challenge will work to provide service to 100 million people in four areas: engaging youth, relieving hunger, sharing the vision and protecting the environment, according to the press release.

Donal Knipp of Auxvasse will also attend the convention with his wife. Knipp is a former international director - he served from 2012-2014. He has been a member of the Auxvasse lions Club since 1968. He is also a retired local businessman.
