Fulton man arrested after car chase

A car chase landed one Fulton man in the hospital.

At 10:37 p.m. Thursday a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol attempted to make a routine traffic stop on a Chevrolet passenger car on eastbound I-70 near Kingdom City, according to a brief.

A chase began after the driver, Ronnie Lee, 24, of Fulton refused to stop. The pursuit entered Kingdom City where the vehicle came to a brief stop. A male passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot, but was detained by an assisting trooper, according to the brief.

The vehicle continued onto U.S. Highway 54 towards Fulton and the Callaway County Sheriff's Department was notified. Deputies responded to assist. The pursuit entered Fulton and ended on Dawson Street, where Lee displayed a handgun as he exited the vehicle. The trooper fired several rounds, hitting Lee once. He was then taken into custody and transported to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment. Later, he was released from the hospital and arrested for possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana, felony possession of a controlled substance - cocaine, felony resisting arrest, felony unlawful use of a weapon, felony in possession of a firearm, excessive speeding and careless and imprudent driving. Lee is being held at the Callaway County Jail.

The handgun that was recovered at the scene had been reported stolen based on information provided by a computer check. An additional male passenger that had remained in the vehicle on Dawson Street was detained.

The investigation is ongoing and will be conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control.
