2 Fulton men turn themselves in after vehicle chase

A Fulton man turned himself into authorities on Monday after allegedly fleeing from officers during a weekend pursuit.

Callaway County Sheriff's deputies took Brent Gibson, 41, of Fulton into custody at 11:23 a.m. Monday when he turned himself in on the charge of resisting arrest, according to a sheriff's office press release.

On Sunday, a sheriff's deputy stopped a white Chevrolet Trail Blazer on Highway 54 near State Road H for an equipment violation at about 2:15 a.m. A press release states Gibson was the passenger and James Wills, 27, of Fulton was driving and allegedly in possession of a controlled substance. The deputy attempted to place Wills in custody, but there was an alleged struggle before Wills struck the deputy and fleeing on foot.

Wills then got back to his vehicle and drove off, reaching speeds of more than 100 MPH, the release states. He drove on various state and county roads before leaving his vehicle on County Road 318. He and Gibson ran off on foot and authorities were unable to catch them. Wills turned himself in later Sunday morning pending a bond of $15,339.50. He is being charged with tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution, resisting/interfering with arrest for a felony, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, exceeding the posted speed limit by 26 MPH or more, theft/stealing of a controlled substance and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle sounding siren and displaying red/blue light.
